Lesson 4: Sometimes, do it for the plot.

17 Lessons I learned at 17

As teenagers, we often find ourselves seeking out adventures, moments that make life feel a bit more thrilling. One day, my friends and I set out on a casual cycling trip when we stumbled upon an untouched building still under construction. The sight was intriguing, and as any curious teenager would do, I felt the urge to explore.

I was with three friends, and while two of them decided to stay back, my adventurous spirit kicked in. I turned to one of my friends and said, “I see some movement,” but he shrugged it off, saying, “It’s fine.” The building looked abandoned, with moss growing on the rooftop, which made it clear that it hadn’t been touched in a while. We carefully climbed through a balcony to get inside.

As we stepped in, the atmosphere was eerily quiet. I stayed close to the entrance while my friend ventured deeper into the building. Just as I was scanning the area, I noticed someone walking nearby. They shouted, “Oye! Come here!” Panic set in, and I yelled to my friend, urging him to run. We bolted out of there as fast as we could. I made it out quickly, but I could see my friend close behind, barely escaping just in time.

Looking back, it was a close call, but that day was unforgettable. We managed to escape without any trouble, and I couldn’t help but laugh at the thrill of it all. Exploring the unknown gave us a story to tell, even if it wasn’t the smartest choice. It reminded me that sometimes, doing things for the plot – for the excitement and the stories we can share – can add a layer of adventure to our lives.

So, embrace the unexpected every now and then. Take risks, explore, and create memories that you’ll look back on with a smile. Life is too short to play it safe all the time; sometimes, it’s about the journey and the tales that come with it.
